A proper payment receipt should include: receipt number and date, business name with GSTIN/PAN, customer name, payment mode, transaction reference, amount received, invoice or order reference, balance due, payment status, and authorized receiver signature.
An invoice is issued by the seller requesting payment from the buyer. A payment receipt is issued after the payment is received, acknowledging the collection. A GST invoice records the supply of goods/services. A payment receipt records the money collected against that supply.
